Two Hands Review: Seriously fudgy brownies and soft cakes near Kent Ridge MRT

From seriously legit fudgy brownies to soft pillowy loaf cakes, Two Hands by The Bravery is truly very underrated.

If you do not know where Science Park Drive is, we understand. While we certainly keep returning to favourites in less “ulu” locales, it is also good to seek hidden gems once in a while.

We’ll even help you get started: Put Two Hands near the top.

Operating out of a Business/Science Park in the Buona Vista-West Coast district (we know, right!), Two Hands is the sister cafe of The Bravery, and specialises in light breakfast sandwiches, baked goods and coffee.

The menu is tight, consisting generally of grab-and-go items. But the focus of this review is specifically their baked goodies.

When in doubt, just get their brownies

Full disclosure: We can’t make up our minds as to which brownie is our favourite, so instead, we’ll say this – just get whatever you see here, then get really excited to try the rest on a return visit.

That is because there are 15 types of brownies listed on the menu.

Each brownie itself is rich, with an almost gooey texture, yet every flavour cuts through it perfectly.

We recommend getting the plain brownie ($4.05) as a starting point, and then work your way to the other flavours.

This way, you will get to taste Two Hands’ version of a classic brownie, and discover how different the rest are from it.

We appreciate the distinctive flavour profile of each brownie, from the sweet to the salty to the fruity.

We tried 8 out of the 15 brownies available, and honestly every one of them gets better than the last one we tried.

They are:

  1. Plain
  2. Espresso ($4.50)
  3. Macadamia ($4.50)
  4. Orange Mocha ($4.50)
  5. Sea Salt ($4.05)
  6. Banana ($4.50)
  7. Raspberry ($4.50)
  8. Ferrero Rocher ($5.40)

Some of them such as Raspberry and Ferrero Rocher have surprise centers so cut them in half to enjoy a satisfying cross-section.

Other bakes are equally good too

Two Hands’ brownies may be ace, but that does not mean you should overlook the other baked items on the menu.

Special mention goes to the Mini Earl Grey Loaf ($7) which harnesses the power of fragrant Earl Grey tea leaves amped up with lavender, and if you think one slice is enough, let us tell you – it’s not.

The Lemon pistachio squares ($4.05) takes us by surprise with its punchy, citrusy notes. It is a tad too sweet for our liking, though.

Otherwise, you cannot go wrong with Burnt Cheesecake ($6.90/slice). Theirs is especially dense but instantly melts in your mouth.

But truth be told, we found ourselves returning to the brownies over and over again. They truly outshone the rest of the bakes that day.

Don’t miss out the bottled drinks

A trip to The Bravery is never complete without a bottle of their unique brews, so we are glad to discover that they are available at Two Hands too.

Our absolute favourites are the Orange Mocha ($7.50) and Lavender Cold Brew ($7.50).

The flavours are subtle and do not overpower the coffee base at all which we appreciate.

But if hot drinks are more your thing, we have never been disappointed by the cafe’s espresso-based drinks so you are certainly in good (two) hands.
