Basque burnt cheesecake selling in a tub at Sheng Siong & Shell Select for S$9.90

Love it or hate it, the basque burnt cheesecake is the undisputed cake of the pandemic.

At the height of Covid-19, the cake with caramelised top that borders on burnt and a molten lava center became ultra trendy as cravings surged during lockdown.

Google Trends suggests that search queries for “basque burnt cheesecake” reached its peak in mid-June this year.

The cake is quite literally liquid gold for aspiring home bakers and established bakeries alike, encouraging more and more places to sell it to meet the high demand.

Good news – you don’t have to go all the way down to specific bakeries or pre-order to get the delectable dessert anymore.

Now sold in supermarkets

We recently discovered basque burnt cheesecake being sold at various Sheng Siong and Shell Select Petrol Mart outlets islandwide.

The cheesecake comes in a tub and retails at a price of S$9.90. It weighs 300gm.

It can be found in the freezers within the supermarkets, alongside other confections and frozen treats.

The 5-inch cake is made by local ready-to-eat snack brand Goomedo and yes, it is halal-certified.
