2-in-1 store selling gelato & modest fashion opens opposite Masjid Sultan

Shopping and gelato.

Kampong Gelam is perpetually changing and during our recent teh tarik visit, we spotted a new store opposite the Sultan Mosque, which also doubles up as a to-go gelato and coffee shop.

Talking Stage is the latest brainchild of Siti Aisyah Ahmad, the young owner behind local modest fashion brands By Harmoni and Modestly.

The new outlet at Bussorah Street is a flagship shop for all three brands.

Opened late last year, Talking Stage allows customers to enjoy gelato and coffee while shopping for modest wear ranging from shawls, hijabs, dresses and more.

Prime address opposite Sultan mosque aside, Talking Stage is hard to miss with its pastel pink walls so your pictures there will certainly look great for the ‘gram!

Coffee and gelato

Coffee-deprived shoppers can get a caffeine boost with a cup of joe here. Classic coffee beverages like Latte and Cappuccino are S$4 each.

Otherwise, specialty drinks such as Salted Caramel Iced Latte Float and Butterbeer are available at S$6 each.

A must-have that goes well with coffee is the dessert selection, such as gelato and small baked goods.

Ten or so flavours of gelato are always on sale in the menu, each of which is distinct in its personality. Some of the flavours available are Matcha, Mint Choc Chip, Banana Nut Crunch, and Pistachio.

The gelato goes for S$3 for a single scoop, S$5 for double and additional S$3 for a Waffle Cup.

Aside from coffee and gelato, the shop also has a small selection of baked goodies like Brownies and Pinkies (pink blondie) that are certainly on-brand.

Retail store

If you’re here to shop, the store offers a range of women’s modest ready-to-wear fashion.

Examples of these include hijabs, dresses, maxi skirts and more.

From what we can see, a number of factors will encourage visitors to luxuriate in the atmosphere: gentle feminine hues and natural lighting swathe the interiors, and a gallery-style product display (especially on the second floor) is bound to make the shopping experience here more enjoyable.

And if all that shopping whets your appetite, the surrounding Kampong Gelam area has no shortage of cafes and restaurants for you to visit for a post-shopping meal.
