Remember a time when walking around food trade shows or pasar malam with a cup of food in hand was a thing? Well, at least one eatery is making this practice a norm with a menu dedicated to Malay dishes in to-go cups.
That eatery is Fourty Thieves, a newly launched food shop in CT Hub 2, and they’re re-imagining how we consume local dishes.
Local dishes in to-go cups
The unique thing about Fourty Thieves seems to be the medium in which they’re serving familiar local dishes. Instead of styrofoam boxes or tupperware, their food comes packaged in plastic cups, presumably for people on the go.
Granted, plastic cups aren’t a new, but eating dishes like sambal goreng pengantin with mantou out of a cup seems like a novel idea.
Here are a few of their offerings:
Sambal Goreng Pengantin Mantou
Sambal Sotong Mantou
Sambal Goreng Pengantin with Lontong
Sambal Sotong with Lontong
Satay Goreng Bruno
Singapura Laksa Supreme
Royal Ambeng Cup
Burger, sliders & lobsters
These don’t come in cups, obviously, but we love the infusion of local flavours in these comfort food.
Check these out:
Burger Masak Merah Senteng
Rendang Robbery Burger
Harta Karun’s Lobster-seafood Sliders
Open Sesame ‘The Lobster Bomb’
Kuih and other sides
If you’re just feeling peckish, Fourty Thieves also offers a selection of Malay kuih like puteri salad and nonya lapis.
There are also gorengan for quick bites such as epok-epok, popiah otah, samosa and begedils.
You can even get some of the dishes like sambal goreng pengantin, sambal sotong and beef rendang as sides — useful for those times you only pack white rice from home.
And if you’re not keen to venture out of your cave for food, Fourty Thieves also does catering or you can just order from GrabFood.
