Those living around Ang Mo Kio might have heard of this gem of a place selling halal Chinese dishes like lok lok, youtiao rojak, nasi lemak and more.
The shop is a MUIS halal-certified establishment, but I was today years old when I discovered it!
Halal Chinese dishes
From its posts on social media, the shop, which goes by the simple name of Susan BBQ, used to be located in Tang Tea House on Jln Kayu.
In 2020, it moved to a standalone unit in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8.
On their menu are items like BBQ, rojak, spring chicken and nasi lemak.
Lok Lok is also available from S$2/stick, according to photos of menus seen online. These dishes served on skewers include items such as chicken wings, shitake mushrooms, prawns, sotong and more.
For something both sweet and savoury, diners can opt for a plate of Chinese Rojak (from S$5), consisting an ensemble of fruits, fried you tiao and fried beancurd tossed in a dressing made of shrimp paste, tamarind, sugars and peanuts.
Nasi Lemak is also available from S$2 for a plain one to S$7 if you choose to have it with sambal sotong, sambal prawn or ikan bawal (pomfret).
There’s also Chicken Rice (from S$6) using fresh kampong chicken.
Other than rice dishes, the food shop also serves up other mains such as Hokkien Mee and Mee Goreng (from S$4.50).
