Bakery cafe in Kallang Bahru is now halal-certified; serves loaf cakes, cupcakes, cookies & more

Bakery with a cause.

Ugly Cake Shop is a bakery cafe that has been in Kallang Bahru for 6 years. Recently, they announced on social media that the cafe is now MUIS halal-certified.

Contrary to its name, the bake shop actually produces beautiful baked goods. The name stems in their belief in not using artificial colouring, artificial flavours, fondant or gum paste—additives typically used to beautify cakes—in their products.

On top of that, Ugly Cake Shop also has a social mission, some of their profits go towards feeding hungry kids in Timor Leste. We ✨stan✨ a business that serves a good cause!

Here’s a look at the cafe:

If you prefer a heftier portion of the cafe’s beloved flavours above, some of them are also available in whole cake form. The cakes come in a variety of sizes for any type of occasion you can think of.

  • Big Daddy Cake (from S$30)
  • Sally Cake (from S$28)
  • Juliana Cake (from S$55)

Sliced cakes are also sold in-store, however, their availability may vary from day to day. To secure yourself a cake, you should probably order in advance on their website.

Alternatively, you can get the Loaf Cake Trio (S$18) so that you can get three flavours of cake in one box! These are essentially cakes baked in a loaf shape with little or less icing/frosting on top, perfect for tea time treats.

Each bundle contains 1 Big Daddy loaf, 1 President Orange butter loaf and 1 Speculoos Dream Butter loaf.

Customised cakes available

Whilst the above baked goods seem to be the baker’s mainstays, they also take in custom cake orders for customers.

In fact, they post more photos of their custom creations on their social media pages than anything else, so if that’s not a flex of their amazing baking skills, we don’t know what is.

The only caveat they have is that they will only use buttercream, and not fondant, in their cakes.
