Nasi Ambeng—we love the traditional Indonesian dish served communal dining-style on a platter or dulang. If you don’t love Nasi Ambeng, who hurt you sis?
As much as we love Nasi Ambeng, even we have to say that it can get quite a bit…predictable, sometimes. And besides, it’s one of those dishes that is so common that everyone has their personal favourites.
So, instead of telling you where to get Nasi Ambeng, here are 6 alternative platters that are both unique and perfect for communal dining. Planning your Iftar with friends? Consider ordering any one of these unique finds for a one-of-a-kind experience.
1. Ramadan Special Platter at Soulfood Catering, S$42
Soulfood Catering is known for their Western fusion twist to the traditional Nasi Lemak, incorporating uncommon proteins like ribeye steak and salmon to coconut milk soaked rice. However, for their Ramadan Platter, they’re keeping it relatively safe with a platter filled with Beef Rendang, Chilli Deng Deng, BBQ Prawns, Mackerel Otah, Begedil, and Omelette served with Nasi Lemak.
2. Lemang Platter at Love, Food Club
Instead of just having rice as the main carbohydrate component in its platter, this restaurant near Rochor MRT also features lemang, a type of glutinous rice typically cooked inside a bamboo stalk. Happily tuck into this iconic Hari Raya food with the deliciously rich beef rendang, addictive ayam percik and fiery sambal tiger prawns and quail eggs. Each platter also comes with Bandung Selasih, dessert of the week and dates.
